Tips For Recovering From Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery

Vaginal rejuvenation, also called vaginoplasty, is a surgical procedure that is designed to tighten the vaginal canal. Many women elect to have this surgery done after having several children, or if the vaginal canal has been damaged in some way. If you have a vaginal rejuvenation performed, there will be a recovery period. Continue reading for tips for recovering after surgery:

Get Plenty of Rest

The vaginal rejuvenation procedure is done under general anesthesia, so after the surgery is completed, you will need to spend time at the clinic or hospital until you are completely awake or alert. Plan on having a friend or family member available to drive you home, since you may feel a little groggy. When you get home, plan on getting plenty of rest. The anesthesia may make you feel sleepy for several hours.

Stay on Top of Discomfort

In the days following the surgery, you may experience pain and discomfort in your genital region as your body heals after the surgery. Using an ice pack in the area can be soothing and help combat swelling and inflammation. Your doctor will most likely also prescribe you prescription pain medication to get you through the worst of the discomfort in the first few days that you are home. Make sure that you take the medication as prescribed and according to schedule to help keep discomfort at bay.

Limit Physical Activities

Most women only have to spend a few days at home before returning to work. However, even if you feel well enough to work, you should avoid rigorous physical activities while your body is still healing. For the first few weeks after surgery, it is in your best interest to avoid strenuous exercise and activities.

Avoid Using Tampons

It can take several weeks for your vaginal canal to completely heal after your vaginal rejuvenation surgery. During this recovery period, you need to avoid using tampons during your menstrual cycle. Using tampons while your vaginal canal is still healing can cause damage to the areas where surgery was done.

Abstain from Sexual Intercourse

When you have vaginal rejuvenation surgery, it is important to note that you will need to abstain from sexual intercourse for several weeks after the surgery. Doing so is very important so the vaginal canal can completely heal. Before engaging in sexual intercourse with your partner, it is important to see your doctor for a post-op check-up. Your doctor will inform you of when it is safe to resume engaging in sexual intercourse.
